Released in america as Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy IV starts in a kingdom called Baron with a death knight called Cecil under rule by a king who wants immortal power through the use of crystals. Cecil who highly of the king like his father doesn't like the dark knight stuff he wears but cause he loves his king he still wears it. Having problems with trying to stop his king, Cecil starts a journey that defeats him and finds out about his family line and why it hurt to wear the dark knight stuff he disappears so much.

The game is the first one to have what many games will have after, a battle system known as ATB or "Active Time Battle" system, which was used in other Final Fantasy titles and other games similar to it and pushed the limits of the SNES console. Final Fantasy IV: Easy type was released in japan on the SNES based on the original game. It made the game much easier than what was released in america and changed the final boss from what it was before to something new (which we won't post since it may ruin the fun for some)

Final Fantasy IV was first released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System then got ported to Playstation, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS and the WonderSwan Color.
