Fantasy XII :: Battle System
Final Fantasy XII's battle system is unlike many of the previous FF games before.
It is system is more similar to FFXI and Star Ocean III. In the game, you will
not have random encounters, the enemies will not come all of a sudden, the screen
will not change to another field. Infact, you will be able to see the enemies,
you can decide wether you want to encounter them or not by going near them or
leaving them alone.
You will choose three characters from your party to play with. When in Field
exploration, all three characters will appear on-screen following the leader.
You will also be able to rotate the camera freely in order to have a good look
at your surroundings. Which is called the 3D Camera system.
The characters will be seen carrying their weapons when in and out of the battles.
There is a new system in the game called the Active Dimention Battle (ADB),
which enables you to control actions and movements of one of your three chosen
characters at once.
The available enemy targets icon will apear above the enemy's head. When you
select to attack the enemy, an Arch will cross between your character and the
enemy, showing your selected target.
Also similar to FFX2, the Active Time Bar (ATB) will begin to fill whenever
you select a command, until the ATB is filled, that's when your character will
perform its command.
Alongside with White and Black Magic, Green Magic is a new sort of Magic. It
contains spells like Shell and status inflicting Magic spells such as Blind
and Slow.
The characters under your control will have four commands: Attack, Magic/Tech,
Gambits and Items.
